Notifying an accident or serious incident
Step 1: By phone
The pilot, owner or aerodrome supervisor is required to report any accident or serious incident immediately and by telephone to the AAIU via:
+32 (0)2 277 33 44
This way an investigator can come to the scene if he considers it necessary.
Except in cases of urgent necessity, it is prohibited to move an aircraft that was involved in a serious incident or accident. It is also prohibited to remove items or parts without permission from AAIU investigators.
If you are in doubt about the seriousness, we ask you to inform us anyway. More info on what constitutes an accident or serious incident can be found here.
Step 2: Written Report
In addition, the ACCIDENT report must be completed within 24 hours via ECCAIRS2:
ECCAIRS2 | Report an Occurrence
- Select ‘Report an occurrence without registration’. Then select ‘Belgium (CAA)’.
- Select the form ACCID-01 and, in step 2, fill in as many relevant fields as possible, subsection by subsection (see tab on the left), before clicking ‘CONTINUE’ to proceed to step 3 (‘Attach documents’).
- In the next screen, you can add files to your report (e.g. photos of the damage, a sketch of the accident with relevant dimensions, etc.). Click ‘CONTINUE’ again at the bottom right of the screen to proceed to step 4.
- It is important that you enter your ‘personal details’ in the final screen before clicking on ‘SUBMIT’. You will then receive an e-mail with a link to your report.
By completing this form, you comply with both European Regulation (EU) 996/2010 (ICAO Annex 13) and (EU) 376/2014 (ICAO Annex 19) (reporting of all occurrences to the BCAA)
