In January 2011, the European network of Civil Aviation Safety Investigation Authorities (ENCASIA) was established.

Mission

The network serves to further improve the quality of aviation safety investigations and to strengthen the independence of national investigation authorities. This includes promoting the exchange of information and best practices. It also includes coordinating and organizing peer reviews, training activities and programs to further develop the skills of investigators. Several working groups were set up to achieve these objectives.

Belgian participation

Belgium actively participates in ENCASIA by providing administrative support for the financial management of EU grants. Belgium also leads Working Group 1 which, with the help of the European Commission, set up and also manages the ENCASIA website. Furthermore, there is an active participation in the different activities of ENCASIA: the peer reviews, the workshops and the plenary meetings with the heads of the investigation authorities.
